Gwen Walz Holds Rally in Battleground Michigan, Encourages People to Vote

MARQUETTE, MI – Gwen Walz made a pit stop in Marquette, Michigan. The wife of Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz spoke to attendees about the importance of voting and also took some digs at former President Donald Trump.

Walz was joined by actress and singer Mandy Moore and State Representative Jenn Hill (D- Marquette).

At one point during the rally, Walz spoke to the crowd of attendees as a teacher saying that November fifth is a pass/fail exam. She said everything is on the line and her assignment to attendees tonight: to get out the vote with early voting officially kicking off in Michigan on Saturday.

Walz for the most part kept it lighthearted and made some jokes on the stage but she also took some jabs at Trump, especially when it came to hot button issues like reproductive rights. She told the crowd in Marquette that Trump is unfit for office and he wants unchecked power if he were to win back the White House. Some of the biggest reactions from the crowd was when Walz claimed that Trump’s economic agenda could threaten thousands of mining jobs in the Upper Peninsula.

Her main focus was telling voters to go to the polls. A couple of attendees we spoke with felt very energized from tonight’s rally.

“As a mom of two daughters it’s really important to me that I fight for the rights of my daughters and that my daughters have the same rights that I had,” said Jamie Crabb, a Harris-Walz supporter.

“I loved it,” said attendee Sandy Rearick. “It’s so emotional. It’s just so heartwarming. Kamala better win!”

This is Mrs. Walz’s fourth visit to Michigan since Governor Tim Walz joined the ticket. The campaign has also sent other surrogates to the state, including the Upper Peninsula. Walz told the crowd she’s going to visit some of the polling sites in the U.P. when early voting kicks off Saturday.

Trump was in Traverse City, Michigan Friday night and his running mate Sen. JD Vance was also outside of Detroit for a rally on Thursday.
