Rip Current Statement

San Juan and Vicinity; Northeast; North Central; Northwest; Culebra

What: Life-threatening rip currents due to breaking waves up to 8 feet. Where: Beaches along the northern coasts of Puerto Rico from Aguadilla to Fajardo, and Culebra. When: Through late tonight. Impacts: Rip currents that can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water where it becomes difficult to return to safety.

San Juan and Vicinity; Northeast; Southeast; Eastern Interior; North Central; Central Interior; Ponce and Vicinity; Northwest; Western Interior; Mayaguez and Vicinity; Southwest; Culebra; Vieques; St.Thomas…St. John.. and Adjacent Islands; St Croix

What: Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. Where: Puerto Rico, including Vieques and Culebra, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. When: From noon AST Saturday to 8 PM AST Sunday Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris. Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible. Addtional Details: – An exceptional above normal moisture profile, a lingering frontal boundary north of our area, southerly flow that will bring up additional moisture combined with an approaching tropical wave will create conditions highly conducive to flooding with eastern Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands expected to receive the major part of the rainfall. – http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
