WASHINGTON, D.C. – US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will visit Haiti and the Dominican Republic this week.
The top diplomat will meet with Haiti’s Prime Minister and the transition council. The State Department said the Secretary will discuss the next steps in Haiti’s democratic transition and US support for the Haitian people through humanitarian assistance and Haitian-led stabilization efforts. We’re told Blinken will also meet with leadership of the multinational security support mission, which aims at helping reestablish security in Haiti as the country continues to struggle against gang violence.
The Secretary will travel to the Dominican Republic on Friday to meet with the President to discuss economic growth, bolster democratic institutions and enhance security in the region, among other topics.
